Central London Sub-Region
The Central London sub-region covers the London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth and Westminster.
Background
In recent years, the Government have developed regional and sub-regional working across the UK though devolving decision-making power to the Scottish Parliament, Northern Ireland and Welsh Assemblies and the establishment of Regional Government and Development Offices such as the greater London Authority (GLA) and the London Development Agency (LDA).
In London, the GLA and LDA recognise five sub-regions: Central, North, South, East and West. Various partnerships working across borough boundaries and representing public, private and voluntary and community interests work broadly within these regional boundaries as do local Learning and Skills Councils (LSCs) and Connexions. This website provides information and links to some of these sub-regional and regional bodies.
Why get involved?
Regional and sub-regional organisations from all sectors have a range of roles to play. These include:
- strategic policy development
- distributing and adminstering funds
- delivering and commissioning services
- implementing government initiatives and legislation
The voluntary and community sector is being increasingly challenged to work in partnership and make links with other areas. Being aware of sub-regional issues and links will enable groups to:
- access new funding
- improve services to users and carers
- develop new or improve and expand existing services
- influence regional policy and service developments
- raise the profile and role of the voluntary and community sector
